OUR HISTORY

In 1998, the idea for the Ilula Orphan Project was developed in correspondence and conversations between Norwegian-American founder Berit Skaare and her long-time Tanzanian Girl Guide friend, Joyce Msolla. Eventually, IOP was established in 1998 and was legally registered in 2003 by the Registrar of Societies in Tanzania’s Ministry of Home Affairs with the registration number   SO. NO. 12054. On 15th August 2019, the organization was re-registered with the NGO Registrar under the registration number 00NGO/R2/000374.
IOP’s primary objective is to give opportunities for excellent education, counseling, and socio-economic development to underrepresented populations in order to remove discrimination and create sustainable communities.

Socio-economic Empowerment

To build and manage profitable Income income-generating activities (IGAs) and achieve gender equality in the community, we seek to empower communities, specifically women, elders, and young people, in social, economic, and political spheres. This lowers the community's reliance on IOP and leads to the development of self-sufficient economies. We seek to empower communities, specifically women, elders, and young people, in social, economic, and political spheres.

IOP'S EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS

We believe in the power of education to improve lives and communities at the Ilula Orphan Program. That is why we are happy to own and operate a number of educational institutions in Tanzania that offer high-quality learning opportunities to students.

The Lord's Hill Secondary School

The Lord’s Hill Secondary School was officially opened in January 2012. Currently, it has ordinary-level students from form one to form four. As a boarding school, the school provides each student with a bed and meals during the school year. The facilities include the main laboratory, the multipurpose hall, one storey building, which consists of eight classrooms, and an administrative office. As part of their weekly schedule, students participate in clubs and debates where they discuss controversial subjects with fellow students and teachers. The subjects covered include history, Civics, Geography, English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Physics, biology, and Chemistry.

Sunflower Pre & Primary school

Sunflower Pre & Primary School is dedicated to providing a safe, supportive, and educational atmosphere that promotes the whole development and evolution of the student’s personality. We create pleasant learning environments, have high standards for all students, and challenge them to attain their full potential as contributing members of society with the right attitude, right action, and right thought. To attain this goal, students, parents, and school personnel collaborate to learn from one another in order to help kids achieve greatness in academics and extracurricular activities. To ensure that we are delivering the best results, we make ourselves available to parents through scheduled meetings and other forms of communication.

KIDS CORNER PRE-SCHOOL

Kids’ Corner Pre-school was founded in 2003 to give children a high-quality early childhood education, between the ages of two and five. The preschool has established a solid reputation for excellence and has become a dependable institution in the neighborhood. Since opening, Kids Corner Pre-school has steadily increased the number of children enrolled, whereby 623 pupils have completed their childhood education program. Currently, Kids Corner Pre-school has 6 teachers and 80 pupils. The number of available classroom spaces has been severely strained by this development, resulting in overcrowded classrooms.

Your Donation Can Change Lives

Your generous donation to our general budget enables us to deliver high-quality education, health services, empowerment programs, and long-term community development. Your contribution, no matter how small, significantly impacts the lives of vulnerable Tanzanian children, women, and elders.

Ilula Orphan Center (IOC)

Ilula Orphan Center (IOC) provides a safe, loving, and nurturing environment for both orphaned girls and boys aged 2-17 years, supported by committed staff and volunteers. The center promotes education, life skills training, and community engagement. The children get all the necessities of life including treatment, food, clothing, shelter, and education. The center needs additional funds to pay the salaries and wages of caregivers and for property insurance, water, electricity, and travel.

ILULA TIGERS SPORTS CLUB (ITSC)

The club was registered by the National Sports Council of Tanzania in 2014. The Club has been holding an annual sports tournament for kids, teens, and adults in May and June in connection with African Child Day to commemorate the Sharpeville massacre which occurred on 21 March 1960. The club’s primary goal is the identification and development of sports talents among youths. To foster an atmosphere where children and youth can realize their sports potential, ITSC plans to establish connections with important partners in youth sports globally.

Areas you can donate

Construction

To provide a better environment for the children and improve their learning experiences, we urgently need donations to support the construction and expansion of our orphanage and schools. With increased capacity, we can accommodate more children in need of care and education.

Food

Access to nutritious food is essential to the health and well-being of the children in our care. Our goal is to provide three healthy, balanced meals a day for every child, but we rely on donations to meet this need. Most of the children come from backgrounds of food insecurity, so having regular access to proper meals is a necessity.

Schools

The expansion and improvement of our schools are vital to ensuring that every child receives a quality education in a safe and stimulating environment. We are seeking donations to build more classrooms, enhance educational materials, and provide modern teaching tools.

Investments

To sustain and grow our orphanage and educational programs, we need to build a reliable investment fund. This fund will allow us to generate steady revenue through income-generating initiatives, such as partnerships with local businesses, grants, or investments in community-based projects.

Education

Education is the cornerstone of a brighter future for every child, but many of the children we care for lack the financial resources to attend school. Through our education sponsorship program, we aim to provide the necessary funding for school fees, uniforms, books, and other essential supplies.
