Ilula Orphan Program (IOP) is committed to fostering positive change in Tanzania through a wide array of impactful programs and projects. Our initiatives address critical areas such as education, health, empowerment, and sustainability to create a foundation for long-term community development.
Most Vulnerable Children and Health
- Ilula Orphan Center (IOC): Provides a safe, loving environment for orphaned girls aged 2–17, offering basic necessities, education, and life skills. Expansion plans include welcoming orphan boys.
- Sponsor Program: Offers education scholarships for children from pre-primary to university.
- Nutrition Program: Reduces maternal health issues and child stunting while supporting school lunch programs to combat truancy and hunger.
- USAID Afya Yangu Program: Delivers integrated health services for HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and family planning in collaboration with USAID.
- Integrated Community Empowerment Project: Promotes Climate-Smart Economic Empowerment through tree nurseries, climate adaptation plans, and sustainable agriculture.
Education and culture
- Kids’ Corner Pre-Primary School: A Swahili medium preschool preparing children aged 3–5 for elementary education.
- Sunflower Pre and Primary School: An English-medium Montessori school offering quality education for children aged 3–14, with a focus on accessible and inclusive learning.
- The Lord’s Hill Secondary School: Provides secondary education with science, arts, and commercial streams, emphasizing academic excellence.
- Holland House of Books Library: Offers resources for learning, storytelling, and computer literacy to children and adults.
- Ilula Tigers Sports Club (ITSC): Develops youth sports talent while fostering education and athletic balance.
Women and Empowerment
- Senior Citizens Program: Advocates for the rights and well-being of elders, addressing their health and social needs.
- Change Program: Facilitates youth exchange programs focused on leadership and global justice.
- Young Mothers Program: Empowers single mothers through skills training, family planning education, and economic independence.
- Girl Guides and Boy Scouts: Develops life skills and leadership qualities among youth aged 5–25.
- Ilula Peacemakers Empowerment Center (IPEC): A vocational training initiative offering practical courses like ICT, tailoring, and carpentry.
Sustainability and Income-Generating Projects
- Shopping Center and Bite Café: Operate as income-generating projects supporting IOP programs.
- Block Machine: Produces building materials for local use and sale.
- Farming and Avocado Farm: Supports food security and income generation, with plans to expand irrigation infrastructure.
- Rental Properties and Equipment: Provides housing and equipment rental services.
- Workshops: Offers carpentry and tailoring services while providing training opportunities for vocational students.
Volunteer and Partnership Opportunities
IOP welcomes global and local volunteers to contribute their time and skills in areas such as teaching, sports, construction, and more. Safari experiences combined with volunteering are also available.
